The aim of this piece was to create a dress that can react and be manipulated by light. A simple dress that is meant to be haunting, playful, mesmerising or dreamlike depending on how it is lit.
The dress is white and a simple silhouette so the message can be placed on the dress without the dress overshadowing it. It also leaves a simple message when it is not being manipulated.
The white was also practical for the transparent disks to work.
I created the dress out of a structured material that could support the disks. I then attached the disks with a slight overlapping patterns to reflect light better.
The images above show how the dress looks when moving and when natural light is used on the disks. The image on the right shows a close up of how light can affect some disks at a time, but not all.
